One of the world’s most famous Japanese drumming groups, YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan, has attracted more than eight million spectators in 55 countries with its spectacular performances. In 2024, YAMATO performed to sold-out audiences in Kuopio, Lahti, and Helsinki, and now the group returns to Finland with a completely new show, Hito no Chikara – The Power of Human Strength. This time, audiences will be able to experience centuries-old Japanese taiko drum music in Helsinki on October 31 and, for the first time, also in Tampere on November 1.

More than forty unique and traditional taiko drums will be heard on stage, each with its own distinctive character. The largest of them, the 500-kilogram Odaiko drum, has a diameter of about two meters and is made from the wood of a massive tree over 400 years old.

These magnificent taiko drums demand a great deal from their players. The group’s highly trained and skilled drummers do not merely strike the drums with explosive power—they also bring out rich and nuanced tones. The audience can enjoy a carefully crafted soundscape, powerful music, breathtaking choreography, and the performers’ unwavering sense of unity. The experience is more than music – it is physical energy, sometimes wild and intense, and at other times delicate and sensitive.

YAMATO’s new show Hito no Chikara – The Power of Human Strength challenges our technology-shaped world by asking: what in us remains uniquely human? With every drumbeat, the performers express human perseverance, passion, and the heartbeat we all share. Hito no Chikara invites the audience to feel the pulse of humanity and celebrate the strength that we all carry within us.
